Conrad grew up in Paradise, Utah and he loves to go back and paint and draw images in the neighborhood. This is an image he created of the old Olsen Granary located near 9200 South 100 East. In this painting, Conrad had fun exploring a liberal color palette & values. He started the painting laying down bright washes in the shadows on his pen & ink drawing on a stretch sheet of bright white textured watercolor paper with Alizarin Crimson, Cobalt Blue, Phthalo Blue & Prussian Blue. In the beginning it was a pretty intense experience laying down those bright washes independent of anything else. As the painting developed and he added more value and color it all came together down to tinting the cloud cover with a touch of pink toward the end of the painting helping tie the whole thing together.
